Swine Festival is held

The Louisiana Swine Festival was held in Basile from Friday, November 1, through Sunday, November 3. On Saturday, the festival featured a Pork Cook-off, Queens’ Boudin Eating Contest, Queens’ Greasy Pig Chase, Kids’ Greasy Pig Chase, and Hog Calling and Boudin Eating Contest.

Tornado Strikes Rhea’s Specialty Meats, Damages Meat Room and Injures Employees

On Tuesday, November 5, at approximately 8 a.m., an F1 tornado tore through the meat preparation room of Rhea’s Specialty Meats and Smokehouse, located on the north side of Highway 190 just west of Basile’s town limits.

Tornado hits Basile

A tornado has struck on the west side of Basile around 8:30 a.m. The tornado has cause damage to Rhea’s Speciality Meats, which is located along U.S. Hwy. 190. There are possible injuries and ambulances have been dispatched to the scene. There is heavy tree damage just to the north.
