Two ordinances, which were first proposed at last month’s meeting, were adopted at Tuesday’s meeting of the Turkey Creek Village Council.
Among the items passed in one of the ordinances is the increase of water rates effective January 1, 2020.
The residential flat rate will increase to $17.00 for the first 2,000 gallon and $4.50 for the next 1,000 gallons.
Small commercial flat rates will increase to $34.00 for the first 4,000 gallons and $4.99 for the next 1,000 gallons.
Large commercial flat rates will also increase to $170.00 for the first 20,000 gallons and $4.99 for the next 1,000 gallons.
The newly approved rates will then increase by an additional four percent on January 1 of 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Included in the same ordinance are amendments to the Office Operations, Policy, Procedures, and Collections. Highlighting the amendments are an increase in the schedule of fines for the police department along with changing the payroll schedule. All the employees of the village will now be paid bi-weekly, however, the elected officials will remain being paid weekly.
The other adopted ordinance allows the Louisiana Municipal Advisory and Technical Services Bureau to collect the insurance premium tax for the village.
As Mayor Phillip Cavins explained, “They’re a little more effective at collecting. They know all what insurance companies are supposed to pay. They reach out and make sure to collect the right amount.”
Mayor Cavins also told the council Opal Andrus has been approved by the Evangeline Parish Police Jury to replace Rhonda Butler on Evangeline Parish Tourism.
