A Ville Platte man was arrested in St. Landry Parish on February 14 after he allegedly beat a disabled veteran at a gas station in Nuba.
The individual arrested was Kenneth Shergold. “Video footage caught Shergold sitting in his Kia Rio near the gas pumps when a blue GMC pickup driven by Henry Guidry pulled into the Nuba gas station,” St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said.
KLFY-TV in Lafayette reported, “Shergold then walked out of his vehicle, approached Guidry from behind, and for no apparent reason, allegedly struck him numerous times in the head, back and body with a tire iron. Shergold then dropped the tire iron and allegedly continued striking him with his fist and knees.”
Shergold left the scene of the incident, and St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers was notified. A video of the actual crime being committed was posted on the Crime Stoppers’ Website.
Tips started pouring in, and one of the tips led investigators to a similar incident involving an assault of a woman at the Wal-Mart in Ville Platte. It was determined the assailants in both cases were Shergold, whom the victim in Ville Platte identified by recognizing his car from the video of the incident in Nuba.
The Ville Platte Police Department as well as the City Marshal Office tracked down Shergold and confirmed his car was indeed the one seen at the time of both complaints.
During questioning, according to KLFY, “Shergold reportedly told detectives, ‘I need an attorney because my mom showed me the video that you’re about to show me, and I don’t remember doing that.’”
Shergold was then booked into the city jail before being transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail.
