The Hotel Cazan Crimefighters led by Valerie Cahill and Camille Fontenot are hosting a Cold Case Conference this weekend at the hotel.
There will be a reception on Friday, February 1, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and there will be guest speakers and panel discussions on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The weekend will conclude Sunday on Louisiana and National Missing Persons Day with a Ceremony of Remembrance in Honor of Missing Persons from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
The weekend’s events circle around the cold case of Alice Marie Reeves who has been missing since May 1967. “She took her infant baby to a babysitter, Ethel Bertrand,” Fontenot said. “She was ready to go to work at a beauty shop which we feel was on Court Street in Ville Platte and never returned.”
Fontenot added, “We have never heard of Alice Marie Reeves again. Her case was not posted in Evangeline Parish, only in Calcasieu Parish.”
The conference will also look into the case of Barbara Blount who went missing from Livingston Parish in 2008. Fontenot said Blount’s family will be in attendance at the hotel this weekend.
Fontenot hopes the public will take advantage of the conference. She said, “We hope people will come and share what they know in either case or open a case of their own.”
