Several individuals were recognized during Wednesday’s meeting of the Evangeline Parish School Board.
Board President Wayne Dardeau led off the meeting by recognizing former Pine Prairie Panther JJ Sims.
“He’s playing football at Southern and scored the winning touchdown in the Bayou Classic,” Dardeau said. “He’s just a freshman, and he’s a good football player. But, he’s a better person. He’s an outstanding young man.”
Later in the meeting, Superintendent of Schools Darwan Lazard recognized employees from Cameron-Schlumberger in Ville Platte.
“Each year,” he said, “they randomly select a group of students from one of our schools that they will treat to a Christmas Day.”
Students from James Stephens Montessori were selected to visit Cameron-Schlumberger earlier that day on Wednesday.
“To see the delight on the faces of our students was a joy for me,” Superintendent Lazard stated. “It was also a joy to see the joy the employees from Cameron had for doing it.”
“They pool their money together and buy toys,” continued the superintendent. “This year, the big hit was basketballs and soccer balls. The balls were bouncing so high I was getting kind of dizzy. It was just a really nice place to be.”
Superintendent Lazard also recognized Kate Lacaze for taking her Mamou High School students to meet the first lady Donna Edwards and to see the Christmas decorations at the Governor’s Mansion. He also recognized the French Immersion students from Mamou Elementary and Ville Platte Elementary for their participation in the Evangeline Parish Police Jury French Meeting.
In other business, the school board voted to keep Wayne Dardeau as president and Scott Limoges as vice president.
