As all the votes from Saturday’s election were tallied, Brian Ardoin and Charles Guillory emerged as the top two candidates for the position of sheriff of Evangeline Parish, according to unofficial results. Both candidates will now face off against each other in a runoff election to be held November 16.
In the same election, Chris Guillory defeated Josh Fontenot for Evangeline Parish Assessor.
Charles Guillory led all seven candidates with 4,146 votes, which was good for 36 percent of the vote. Ardoin received 2,637 votes, which was good enough for 23 percent of the vote.
Ardoin barely edged Dirk Deville to make the runoff election as both candidates received 23 percent of the vote, however, Deville fell 22 votes shy of overtaking Ardoin with his 2,616 votes.
Finishing behind the top three vote getters for sheriff are the following:
• Jamie Fontenot 1,177 votes 10 percent
• Neal Lartigue 499 votes 4 percent
• Michael Kevin Fontenot 3 percent
• Joe Brady 101 votes 1 percent
The race for assessor was just as close as the race for sheriff as the vote differential was only 298 votes.
Chris Guillory received 5,653 votes for 51 percent of the vote, and his challenger, Josh Fontenot, received 5,355 votes for 49 percent of the vote.
