VILLE PLATTE - On Tuesday, August 26, a patient and her husband reunited with the Acadian Ambulance paramedic and EMT who saved her life earlier this year. The reunion was held at Acadian’s Ville Platte station, where the crew members were formally recognized for their quick actions and dedication.
On April 28, 2025, Acadian Ambulance responded to the residence of Katrina Hackney, who had collapsed. Her husband, Rusty Hackney, a nurse practitioner, immediately initiated CPR until Paramedics Mark Dupont, Dustin Soileau, and EMT Laura Holcomb arrived. Upon arrival, Hackney was found pulseless and not breathing. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) measures were initiated, and within minutes, her pulse was restored.
The crew quickly transported Hackney by ambulance for continued care and stabilization. The early CPR performed by her husband, combined with the rapid response from Acadian paramedics, made the difference in her recovery.
“You don’t always get to meet the people you’ve saved, but today you get to see the impact you made on my life and my family’s life,” Hackney said to the paramedics.
In recognition of their actions, Acadian Ambulance Operations Managers Christian Dennis and Adam Olivier presented the crew members and Mr. Hackney with Meritorious Service Awards, an honor given to crew members and civilians who go above and beyond to save a life. EMT Holcomb, who was also on scene that day, was unable to attend the reunion.
“There’s no doubt that what you did affected the outcome of her recovery in all manners,” Dennis said to Hackney's husband. “The same goes for our crew, Mark, Dustin, and Laura.”
