Local stores have made changes to deal with COVID-19. Teets Food Store is now limiting the purchase of toilet paper, rice, ground beef, chicken, milk, eggs, household essentials, water, and cold/flu medicine to give time to restock their inventory.
Roxanne Brown, a manager at the Ville Platte Champagne’s, said they are not limiting anything, and it is “business as usual,” with their normal hours.
Brookshire Grocery Company, which owns Spring Market in Mamou, released a press release saying they are giving a temporary 5% daily discount for seniors age 60 or older with a valid ID, through May 5, 2020. They are also encouraging their stores to reserve the first hour of operation daily for seniors to shop. The company is also asking the community’s help in honoring this practice and in moving any senior guests to the front of the check-out line throughout the day.
Paul Fontenot, owner of Paul’s Meat Market, said, “It’s business as usual.” He added, “It’s time for this to be over.” He said they have not run out of any meat, but have run low on toilet paper, milk, and eggs, but still get regular shipments.
Because of the impacts, both Champagne’s and Paul’s are temporarily suspending their weekly ads due to the fact some items may be out of stock for the time being. As a result, the Evangeline Lagniappe was not printed this week on Tuesday, March 24.
