Newly named executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, Renee Brown, addressed the Ville Platte Rotary Club last week on ideas that came out of meeting with business leaders from the community. Some of the ideas are holding forums for big and small businesses.

Rotary gets medical attention

New medical programs at South Louisiana Community College’s CB Coreil Campus and a family practice physician returning to Ville Platte were featured at the first two May meetings of the Ville Platte Rotary Club.

Head, heart, hands, health on display

Students from around Evangeline Parish were recognized Tuesday night for their achievements in the 4-H Club. The Award’s Night was held at the Northside Civic Center in Ville Platte. The 4-H Member of the Year Award went to Madison Fontenot.

Mr. Swenson, Miss Ledoux united in Holy Matrimony

Ricki Ledoux and Douglas Swenson were united in Holy Matrimony at 6:30 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2018, at LSU Botanical Gardens in Baton Rouge. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin and Constance Ledoux of Ville Platte. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Louella Duplechain of Ville Platte.

Mr. Cavins, Miss West plan May 26 nuptials

The engagement of Miss Melisa Lynée West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Quint and Roxane West of Pine Prairie to Mr. Phillip Michael Cavins, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott and Amanda Cavins of Pine Prairie and Mr. and Mrs. Chad and Holly Briscoe of Upper Pine, has been announced by their parents.

BOY — Russell Hayward Gardner was born at 4:14 p.m. on February 16, 2018, at Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va., to Drs. William and Michelle (Tate) Gardner, of Fredericksburg, Va. Baby Gardner weighed six pounds and six ounces.

Sacred Heart School sends students to FBLA Nationals

Ten students from Sacred Heart School placed in the top 5 at the Junior High School Future Business Leaders of America State Convention with a pair qualifying to go on to the National Convention this summer.
