Rotarian Linda Fontenot welcomed Natasha Leday and Kishara Angelety with New Day Personal Care Services as the guest speaker for the August 22, meeting of the Ville Platte Rotary Club. Leday is the owner of the business and Angelety is the marketing director. Leday said they have two locations, one in Lafayette and one in Eunice. Leday noted she has ties to the Ville Platte community and recently returned to the area. The Eunice location has been open since May 2023, as Leday wanted to bring their services to the Region Four, Ville Platte/Mamou area. Leday owns a house on Coreil Street that she wants to turn into a space for senior citizens. Leday shared it is important for seniors to stay active by interacting with other seniors and her goal is to make a positive impact while serving the community.
Angelety discussed the bingo and brunch fund raiser set for Thursday, September 14, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Northside Civic Center. The event is free for senior citizens 65 and older and will feature, bingo, other games, music and brunch. She shared the event is open to seniors who don’t get out much and will be partnering with Heritage Manor to bring interested residents to the event. Angelety added a group of active senior volunteers known as the Silver Wings will be volunteering at the event.
Leday then said the non-profit organization also is focused on community outreach wherever needed, including children and the homeless. She wants to create a safe space for the community and provide a safe and fun outlet for the youth of the community.
President Brian Ardoin discussed the comedy night fall social planned for the Ville Platte Rotary Club, noting it will be held Wednesday, September 13, at Cafe Evangeline. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The seating capacity is limited to 60 people due to space in the building. Entertainment for the event will be provided by Third Circuit Court of Appeals Judge and Cajun comedian Jonathan Perry. With this event set, the regular Tuesday noon meeting will not be held on September 12.
New Rotarian Ashlyn Ortego, marketing director at Mercy Regional Medical Center, introduced herself to the group and gave a brief background of her work history.
The next meeting will be held August 29, with a visit from Rotary District #6200 District Governor Ken Firmin.
