Holly Kay of Lake Charles was crowned Queen Cotton LXVII during pageant festivities held Saturday evening, October 23.
Kay is the daughter of Keith and Robin Kay of Robeline. The 22-year-old brown hair, brown eyed beauty is currently a senior at McNeese State University, where she is pursuing a degree in agriculture science. After graduation, she plans to obtain a position with the LSU AgCenter to begin a career as a field researcher.
The new queen’s hobbies include cooking, spending time with her cats, Kitty and Oscar, and watching movies with her roommates.
Kay says she entered the Cotton Pageant because, “As a past Louisiana Tournoi Queen, I had the opportunity to see the Cotton Festival from the eyes of its ‘sister festival,’ so I know how important it is to the Ville Platte community that it is represented with grace, passion and respect.”
Kay wasn’t the only family member crowned that day. Her sister, Lauren Smith, was crowned Ms. Swine Festival in Basile shortly before the Cotton Festival Pageant. As soon as her pageant was over and she took her queen photos, Smith drove to Ville Platte to watch her sister compete for the Cotton title. The sisters are looking forward to enjoying their respective reigns and traveling together.
Placing as first runner-up to the new Queen Cotton was Olivia Langham, the 19-year-old daughter of Anthony and Aimee Dronet of Erath.
Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court Randy Deshotel served as master of ceremonies for the pageant.
