Queen Cotton LXIX: Mickal to reign over festival

Amelia Claire Mickal of Lafayette was crowned Queen Cotton LXIX during the 69th Annual Queen Cotton Coronation held Saturday afternoon, October 14, at the Northside Civic Center.
Mickal, the 20-year-old daughter of Tim and Colleen Mickal of Lafayette, is a 2021 graduate of St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette. She is currently a sophomore at SLCC, where she is pursuing a degree in communication. The new queen’s hobbies include fishing, kayaking, bike riding, working out and antique shopping. Mickal also is a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Diner and Faith House. Her future plans include graduating from college and focusing on tourism and agriculture in the state of Louisiana. She said, “I want to represent cotton in the agriculture industry in Louisiana and show people the importance and history of the cotton industry.”
Placing as first runner-up to the new Queen Cotton was Robin Alyssa-Grace Peavy, the 18-year-old daughter of Scott and Erin Ann Peavy of Lake Charles.
Emily Elizabeth Loupe, the 21-year-old daughter of Avery and Angela Loupe of Paulina, was named Miss Congeniality.
In addition to Mickal being crowned Queen Cotton LXIX, Eric Smith of north Natchitoches Parish, was crowned King Cotton LXIX. Colonel Cotton Pat Derouselle and Grand Parade Marshal Kimberly Deville were also presented during the pageant festivities.
