Today is the first day of Spring. The return of warm weather is expected, beautiful spring flowers, birds singing and different wardrobe also mark the change in seasons. In the Northern Hemisphere, Spring begins in March, and south of the equator, Spring begins in September.
Spring brings rising temperatures, longer days and new beginnings. Spring months here are March, April, May and part of June. March showers may bring May flowers, but they also bring worms up and out of the soil. Earthworms typically spend the winter buried deep below the frost line, but the annual spring showers reduce the oxygen in the soil and cause them to make their way to the surface. That’s why the first full moon in March is called the Worm Moon. It is time to dig in the earth and plant flowers and vegetables.
