Panthers continue dream start

The Pine Prairie Panthers improved to 3-0 on Friday night with another impressive win over Buckeye, 48-12. Unfortunately, statistics were not available as of press time. Coverage of the game will be made available in the Thursday, September 23 edition of the Ville Platte Gazette.

Trojan defense answers the call in 19-0 shutout win

This season, if it continues the way it’s going so far, can be a pretty good one for the Sacred Heart Trojans. After running roughshod over Marksville in a 35-point quarter on its way to a 35-7 win last week, Sacred Heart took a different approach Friday night against the Basile Bearcats.

Collision course

One thing is clear when talking to Sacred Heart coach Josh Harper about Basile, his team’s opponent this week. The Bearcats are an opponent he respects. Not just because of their past success, but also because of their physicality. Physicality and running the ball are two things Harper loves.

Bulldogs set to finally take the field

If there’s an argument for the most quarantine ravaged team in 2021, the Ville Platte Bulldogs certainly have an argument. They couldn’t participate in a fall scrimmage, a jamboree and had to forfeit its first two regular season games.

Pine Prairie, Mamou seek to continue with improvements

If there is a common thread running through both Pine Prairie and Mamou’s football programs right now, it’s one of improvement. Both teams are showing signs of life and major improvement after struggling the past two seasons.

King George

JENNINGS — Pine Prairie junior running back Elijah “Buck” George barely touched the ball in Week 1 when his team broke its 21-game losing streak in a 49-16 blowout of Merryville. It did not matter to him. He wants to be more about collecting wins than about stuffing the box score.

Setting the tone

Josh Harper loves starting fast. He calls it “setting the tone,” and it is exactly what his Sacred Heart Trojans did Friday night in a 35-7 win over Class 3A Marksville.

Victory denied

Coming off of a “bye” week that resulted in North Central forfeiting because of COVID, the Mamou Green Demons travelled to Dry Prong to take on a Grant Cougar team that had run all over Montgomery in Week 1.
