Lady Trojans prepare for new basketball season

By: TONY MARKS Editor PINE PRAIRIE - For the second time this season, Ville Platte High earned a win on the football field. It came in the form of a 42-6 victory over the parish and district rival Pine Prairie Panthers last Friday night.

Trojans stumble at home against Hornets

By: TONY MARKS Editor For the fourth time this season, the Sacred Heart Trojans suffered a district defeat. The latest blemish came last Friday night with a home 31-12 loss against Catholic-Pointe Coupee. Jude Hebert was limited to 88 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

An un-hollow Halloween

By: TONY MARKS Editor BASILE - After an hour-long weather delay, Basile did a better job of protecting the football and executing when it needed to in key moments of the game. As a result, the Bearcats ended a two-game losing streak with a 26-0 win over Oberlin on Halloween night.

After his Basile team earned a 26-0 win over Oberlin on Halloween night, Jackson Courville was presented with a T-Shirt in recognition of being the Ville Platte Gazette’s Player of the Week in Week 2. That week he solidified the Bearcats’ win over Mamou with a 1-yard touchdown run.

By: RAYMOND PARTSCH III LSN Sports Reporter Elton has snapped its longstanding losing skid to Basile. Entering last week's Battle of the Bayou rivalry game, the Indians had lost 10 straight contests to the Bearcats and hadn't won a meeting between the two programs since 2011.

By: TONY MARKS Editor VILLE PLATTE - After going 0-fer in its first three district games of the season, the Sacred Heart Trojans battened down the hatches and defeated North Central 49-0 on homecoming night last Friday. The Trojans improved to 5-3 on the season overall and 1-3 in district play.
