Bearcats head to Baldwin for 1st round of playoffs

By: DARREL LEJEUNE LSN Editor The Basile Bearcats will hit the road Friday to face the West St. Mary Wolves in Baldwin in the opening round of the Division IV Non-Select State Playoffs. Basile, representing District 4-1A, enters the postseason with a 5-5 record and a number 19 seed.

By: TONY MARKS Editor BASILE - It was a game that was vital for Basile’s playoff hopes. Not only would a win give the Bearcats the District 5-1A title, but it would also give the team a higher seed in the playoffs that start next week.

Third year of impactful LSHOF membership drive launches

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation has generated $85,000 over the past two years to support the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Museum through its “Join the TEAM” membership drive. First launched in 2023, Year Three of the membership drive began on November 1.

By: TONY MARKS Editor The Ville Platte High football team picked up its fourth win of the season after a 38-0 victory over Pine Prairie on senior night last Friday. The Bulldogs’ win also improved the team’s district record to 3-2.

Jersey retirement ceremony to be held for Ville Platte’s Edwards

By: TONY MARKS Editor Ville Platte High School will present a retirement of Renotta Edwards’ jersey on Saturday, November 8, beginning at 5 p.m. inside the school’s gym. There will also be a recognition of the 2011 and 2014 state runner-up teams. Free admission.

By: TONY MARKS Editor OBERLIN - Towards the end of the second quarter, the Basile football team trailing by one point on the road against district rival Oberlin. The Bearcats, undaunted, then answered on their ensuing possession with another touchdown to regrab the lead.

By: TONY MARKS Editor BASILE - In the 65th meeting between two football teams separated by a bayou, the visiting Indians of Elton scored on the first play from scrimmage on a 63-yard run from Makelin Lemoine and on the ensuing extra point.

By: TONY MARKS Editor It took seven games, but Pine Prairie finally did it. In its Week 8 matchup against Pickering, Braylon Johnson, a freshman linebacker, picked up a fumble and returned the loose football for a defensive score.

Northwest blanks Mamou 40-0

By: TONY MARKS Editor For the Mamou football team, it was one of those days at the office. With six starters out of the lineup, the Green Demons fell 40-0 against the Northwest Raiders. With the loss, Mamou fell to 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in district play.
