Permitless Concealed Weapons law goes into effect today

(Editor’s Note: The following is a public service announcement from Sheriff Charles Guillory.) Evangeline Parish is a rural parish where many of us are raised to shoot guns and, of course, go hunting. Many have been shooting guns at an early age, and gun safety was always impressed upon our youth.

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Laborde is arrested for timber theft

On June 18, Leonard Laborde, of St. Landry, was arrested on two counts of timber theft, two counts of criminal trespass, and one count of simple criminal damage to property.

VP resident is arrested for Lafayette homicide

The Lafayette Police Department arrested 19-year-old Kayden Wilson, of Ville Platte, in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Toren Martin, of Lafayette. Wilson was charged with second degree murder.

WBR crash claims life of Mamou resident

Port Allen – Shortly before 3:00 a.m. on June 29, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 415 near Commercial Drive in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Jada Bergeron of Mamou.

Sheriff announces beginning of jail construction

By: TONY MARKS Editor Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory announced the start date for the new parish jail was Tuesday, June 25. Initially, the start date was scheduled for a week prior, but the start was delayed because of tropical weather that moved across the area.

Felon is arrested on drug, weapon charges in Mamou

On June 5, after a narcotic investigations into the distribution of illegal narcotics, agents with Evangeline Parish Sheriff Office, along with patrol deputies, executed a no-knock narcotic search warrant at a residence on the 500 block of East Street, in Mamou.

Arrest is made in connection with missing person

Chief Al Perry Thomas reports that on June 16, 2024, detectives from the Ville Platte Police Department began investigating the disappearance of 27-year-old Keabreonna “KeKe” Doucet, who was last seen June 15, 2024.
