The Ville Platte Police Department reported the following recent bookings into the city jail. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Arrested were the following persons: • Michael James Jack, 44, was arrested October 7, 2024, for operating while intoxicated.

The Silver Alert for Melvin Johnston has been canceled. He has been located and is safe. Please refer all inquiries about this case to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Silver Alert: Assistance Needed Locating Missing Turkey Creek Man

Evangeline Parish – Louisiana State Police has issued a Silver Alert on behalf of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office for 74-year-old Melvin Johnston. He was last seen at his residence on Mayo Road in Turkey Creek on October 21, 2024, and discovered missing at approximately 4:30 a.m.

Mamou resident is victim of murder/ suicide

Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office continue their investigation into a Saturday evening shooting, which left two people dead. Deputies were dispatched just after 7 p.m., on October 12, to La. Highway 367 (White Oak Highway).

Evangeline Parish reg. of voters is arrested in Avoyelles Parish

Evangeline Parish Registrar of Voters Ashton Lucas Buller was arrested in Avoyelles Parish, on Saturday, October 12, for charges of DWI and possession of schedule II CDS. Avoyelles Parish District Attorney Charles Riddle confirmed the arrest and the charges on Monday, October 14.

Charles is arrested for second degree murder

On September 14, the Ville Platte Police Department was conducting an investigation in reference to a homicide that occurred on Reed Street, inside the corporate limits of Ville Platte, where a female victim was fatally wounded by gunfire.
