Chief A. Perry Thomas reports that the Ville Platte Police Department is currently investigating a shooting which occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, August, 17, 2025. At that time, a 911 call was made regarding a shooting at the 200 block of East Pine Street.

Ville Platte Chief of Police A. Perry Thomas reported an inmate escaped from the city jail at 10:51 a.m. on Sunday, August 10. Braylon Johnson was initially arrested on July 29 for domestic abuse, aggravated battery, and child endangerment. He also had an active bench warrant for St. Landry Parish.

Two youths are involved in accidental shooting

According to reports, two 10-year-olds were involved in an accidental shooting at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 9. The incident occurred on Quail Loop Street, just south of Ville Platte. While playing a game, one of the boys grabbed a weapon not knowing it was loaded.
