LSU’s win dawns new era in storied program

Talk about closing the deal … Before this year’s Men’s College World Series began, I wrote a column stating that talent alone wouldn’t carry LSU to a national championship. I questioned, above all, whether LSU had the pitching depth needed.

By: TONY MARKS LSN Sports Editor OMAHA, Neb. - Twenty-four hours after giving up 24 runs in a loss to Florida, the LSU Tigers responded with an 18-run outburst in the deciding game of the best-of-three finals of the College World Series.

No red herring

By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor OMAHA, Neb. – When LSU head baseball coach Jay Johnson had to respond to a disappointing year one, and the cries of the fan base that the roster wasn’t strong enough, the first thing he did was attack the transfer portal to supplement the roster.

The hotel had curb appeal and a nice lobby and courtyard area around the pool, but the exterior was deceiving because the hotel itself can be best described as a “dump.” There was no elevator, breakfast, or ice machine. The bathtub did not drain for hours.
