The trial date for an Evangeline Parish resident charged with allegedly mutilating a pregnant Nigerian Dwarf doe goat has been reset for December 5, 2019.
The defendant in the matter, Joseph Chet Soileau, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and theft of animals $1500 or more.
According to information obtained from the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court office, the incident took place on February 10 of this year at a residence located at 1129 Gummy Point Road in the Bayou Chicot area.
When the victim returned home from work the next morning, “she noticed a goat was missing and then watched her video surveillance,” according to a narrative from a Louisiana Brand Commission enforcement officer. “She found out that, on February 10, 2019, Joseph Chet Soileau along with three other subjects entered her property from the northeast corner, made their way to her goat pen, and shot the goat. After the goat was shot, the goat was taken out of the pen then drug to Chet’s house directly next door where it was processed. Pictures were taken that shows a blood trail leading to Chet Soileau’s house.”
The victim, nine days later, contacted the brand commission “to report the theft and disappearance of a Nanny Goat from her property,” according to the initial complaint report from the Livestock Brand Commission.
The initial complaint continued, “Complaintant indicated she had reported the matter to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department shortly after she noticed her goat was missing.”
The initial complaint report from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s office states a deputy upon arrival “made contact with Chet Soileau at the residence who stated that he had lots of people over, and he didn’t know who may have done it. Photos were taken of the blood trail to the rear of the residence. The incident was turned over to investigations.”
