Veterans Day is observed in parish

Veterans Day was observed with several events in the parish on Tuesday, November 11. (Left photo) The annual ceremony was held at the courthouse in Ville Platte. During the ceremony, Ville Platte Mayor Ryan LeDay Williams presented proclamations to the oldest and youngest veterans.

The Pine Prairie High School Marching Band hit all the right notes on Monday, November 4, capping off an incredible 2025 season with a show-stopping performance at the Louisiana Music Educators Association’s (LMEA) 2nd Annual State Championship, held at McNeese State University.

Bunkie resident is killed in crash on La. 106

ST. LANDRY – On November 2, 2025, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 106 near Lutz Loop. The crash claimed the life of 42-year-old Michael Fontenot of Bunkie.

Injection well is proposed for Oakdale landfill

By: TONY MARKS Editor OBERLIN - Following reports of leachate from a landfill outside of Oakdale running off into Cypress Creek, a public hearing is set regarding a Class I Nonhazardous Waste Disposal Well. The hearing will be Thursday, November 20, at 6 p.m.
