The first mission for the Ville Platte Super 10s All-Stars can be described in one word: completed. The All-Stars completed a perfect week last Sunday at the Ville Platte Evangeline Parish Recreational Center, beating the Vernon American All-Stars 9-5 to win the East Sub-District title.

The Ville Platte Super 10 All-Stars got this weekend’s sub-district tournament started in style on Thursday, defeating DeRidder by run-rule 19-3 in three innings at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex.

The Jena Lady Giants topped the All-State Softball Team in Class 3A by having junior infielder Tori Shirley (.491) as outstanding player and Sarah Roark as coach of the year. Also making the first team with Shirley was senior utility player Janasia Jones (.439).

The Mamou Dixie Youth T-Ball All Stars placed first in the sub-district tournament. Team members are Grayson Perron, Japheth Spears, Tucker Ardoin, Emmett Christ, Kohen Matthews, Paxton Ashford, Levi Fontenot, Kalem Fontenot, Jayden Willis, Colton Young, and Waylon Thibodeaux. Coaches are Hunter Christ, Scott Young, Scott Thibodeaux, and Shem Spears.

Ville Platte, your time has come. Our babies were cooped up for the better part of a year. They did the best they could to be well-behaved. And, speaking from experience, my own kids did great in a time of crisis. To put it bluntly, the pandemic sucked for most of our kids.

Several members of the Sacred Heart baseball team were named to the All-District team in District 5-1A. A pair of juniors in Isaac Leger as an infielder and Zeph Arnold as an outfielder cracked the list of first team players. Senior Trojan Alex McElwee also made first team as a catcher.
