Ville Platte unable to match-up with Class 4A Eunice

EUNICE -- The Bobcats opened the Andre Vige era with a school record over Ville Platte.
Eunice set the school record for points as the Bobcats cruised to a 74-0 win over the Bulldogs.
EHS exploded for 42 points in the fourth quarter last season to beat Northwest 73-24.
Against Ville Platte, the Bobcats finished with an estimated 450 yards of total offense.
The game started with a Eunice turnover on the kickoff, but Fred Guillory promptly recovered a Ville Platte fumble at the Bobcat 40.
Eunice quickly went down the field in five plays, capped off with a 14-yard touchdown run by Landen Higginbotham.
Zach Suire scored on a two-point conversion to push the Bobcats ahead 8-0 with 8:15 left in the first period.
Bryson Poullard recovered the onsides kick to give the Bobcats the ball at the Ville Platte 43.
Higginbotham ran the ball to the Bulldog 26 and Simeon Ardoin connected with Hayden Darbonne for the 26-yard touchdown.
Braden Rider’s kick increased the Bobcats’ lead to 15-0 with 7:19 left in the period.
The Eunice defense then stepped up when VPHS quarterback Ernest Roberts fumbled and Dedric Vigers returned the ball 14 yards for the Bobcat score.
Rider’s PAT pushed EHS ahead, 22-0 with 5:24 left in the opening period.
The Ville Platte offense struggled to move the ball on their next possession and then punt snap went out of the endzone for a safety as the Bobcats led 24-0 with 3:54 remaining in the quarter.
After the free kick, the Bobcats moved 44 yards in just five plays, with Simeon Ardoin finding Dylan Guillory open for an 18-yard score.
Rider’s kick pushed the Bobcats up 31-0 with 1:39 left in the period.
Ville Platte had good field position after a Bobcat personal foul, but four Bulldog penalties hurt their chances to move the ball.
Ville Platte had to punt on fourth-down and 41 at their own 10 and Eunice set up shop deep in Bulldog terrritory as the second quarter began.
Strong runs by Deon Ardoin moved the ball inside the VPHS 10 and Higginbotham scored on a sevn-yard run.
Rider’s PAT increased the Bobcat lead to 38-0 with 10:46 left in the half.
After forcing the Bulldogs to punt on their next possession, Eunice then moved quickly down the field on impressive runs by Deon Ardoin.
Deon Ardoin capped the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run.
The PAT was no good, but the Bobcats led 44-0 with 5:52 left in the half.
Ville Platte fumbled the kickoff and Eunice’s Ty’shun Joseph recovered at the Bulldog 30.
Simeon Ardoin scored on the first play of the drive, but a blind-side block penalty erased the points.
A run by Higginbotham put the Bobcats back to the Ville Platte 28 and then Jeoul Hill scored on the next play with 4”57 left in the period.
Rider’s kick increased the Bobcats’ lead to 51-0.
Ville Platte miscues continued to hurt the Bulldog offense.
Facing a fourth down and 50 at their own five-yard line, another high snap on the punt attempt rolled out of the end zone.
With the safety, Eunice forged ahead, 53-0 with less than two minutes remaining in the half.
After another free kick, the Bobcats quickly moved the ball down the field, including a 30-yard pass from Simeon Ardoin to Guillory to move the ball to the VPHS 17.
Two plays later, Ardoin connected with Jaheim Mitchell for the 17-yard touchdown with 32 seconds remaining.
The PAT failed, but the Bobcats took a 59-0 lead in the intermission.
Eunice’s special teams gave the Bobcats the ball to begin the second half when Joseph recovered the squib kick deep in Ville Platte territory.
Vige cleared the bench in the third period and a touchdown by Jesten Calloway and a PAT by Hudson Manuel increased the Bobcats’ lead to 66-0.
After forcing a Ville Platte punt, the Bobcats took over at the Bulldog 44.
Runs by Isaiah Thomas and Christian Andrepont helped move the Bobcats inside the Ville Platte 20.
Two plays later, Calloway scored on a 13-yard run with 1:30 left in the third period.
After a bad snap on the extra point attempt, Suire scrambled with the ball and found Calloway open for the two-point conversion a 74-0 Bobcat lead.
With the running clock in the second half, each team had one final possession in the fourth quarter.
After a Ville Platte punt, the Bobcats moved inside the Bulldog 5 but then Andrepondt knelt twice to end the game.
“It was a night where a lot of things went wrong for them and a lot of things went right for us,” Vige said after the game. “It was a combination of them making a lot of mistakes and us executing well.
“We were physical and I thought our offensive line played real well,” Vige said. “The offense clocked running and throwing the ball.
Eunice travels to Breaux Bridge this week, while Ville Platte entertains North Central.
St. Martinville beat Breaux Bridge, 26-14.
