COUSHATTA -- The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs knew that it would be a tough season coming into the 2017-18 campaign, having lost a number of very important players to graduation last year.
But, Ville Platte fought the valiant fight all year long, making it to the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Unfortunately, for the Lady Bulldogs, that season came to an end Thursday night, as they fell to Red River here 101-47.
Red River put their foot on the gas from the jump on the offensive side of the ball and never let up. Despite the 12 point effort in the first quarter, including eight points from Jakiah Thomas, Ville Platte found themselves down by 21 points, 33-12.
The second quarter was much of the same. Red River was able to double up Ville Platte in terms of points, 28-14, to take an overwhelming 61-26 halftime lead.
Over the final two periods, Red River managed to out pace Ville Platte 40-21 to end the Lady Bulldog season and advance on in the playoffs.
Thomas led Ville Platte with 27 points on the night.
