Both the Sacred Heart Trojans and the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers kept themselves in top five power ranking contention with huge wins Tuesday afternoon.
Down 2-0 to long time rival St. Ed’s, the Trojans were able to rally in the final four innings to come away with a 4-2 win over the Blue Jays.
Meanwhile, after dropping two of their last four games, the Lady Panthers got back on track with a resounding 11-0 victory over Church Point.
Against the Blue Jays, Sacred Heart did not come out of the gate with any type of early momentum, as St. Ed’s was able to come away with solo runs in the bottom of the second and third innings to take a quick 2-0 lead.
The Trojans would finally respond in the top of the fourth inning by tying the game at 2-2. Garrett Fontenot and Alec Gotro would each single to lead off the inning.
Fontenot came home on a squeeze bunt from Christian Duplechin and Gotro would later score on a single by Cade Manuel.
Sacred Heart settled down enough on the mound and in the field to blank the Blue Jays the rest of the way.
The Trojans added single runs in the top of the fifth and the top of the seventh to finish out the win.
Sacred Heart is now 11-5-1 on the year and will host the Northwest Raiders on Saturday. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
On the flip side, the Lady Panthers wasted no time in dismissing the Lady Bears picking up their 11 runs on 13 hits.
Pine Prairie jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning when Tori Johnson homered to right-center field.
The Lady Panthers would follow that up with another run in the top of the third inning. Maycie Harvey doubled, stole third base and was sent home on an error with Abby Fontenot at the plate.
Pine Prairie increased the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning, as Jacie McFarlain doubled to lead things off and scored on another Lady Bear error, this time off of the bat of Hardy.
The Lady Panthers added two more runs in their next at bat. Abby Fontenot blasted a solo shot over the left field fence and Asia George walked and scored two batters later on an error with Allie Fontenot at the plate.
In their final plate appearance of the game, the Lady Panthers subdued Church Point with six more runs. With one out Johnson ripped a triple into deep center field. Abby Fontenot and George walked to load the bases.
Kailey Soileau doubled home Johnson and Fontenot, moving George to third base. Brianna Wall plated George and Soileau with a single to center field and moved to third on two over throws by the Lady Bear defense.
Allie Fontenot scored Wall on a sacrifice fly to right field. Sydia King followed with a triple and came home on a double by McFalain to round out the scoring for the Lady Panthers in the contest.
