SHS knocked around by rival OC

VILLE PLATTE -- A 12-2 loss to long time rival Opelousas Catholic on Tuesday afternoon put a major dent in the Sacred Heart Trojans chances at a district title.
The Vikings collected 11 hits on the day, while holding Sacred Heart to only two base knocks the entire day.
With the loss, the Trojans dropped to 14-7-1 on the year and 1-1 in District 5-1A. Sacred Heart will play at Slaughter Charter today and finish out the week tomorrow as they host Simpson High School in a non-district contest.
Opelousas Catholic put up a single run in the top of the first to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Trojans struggled offensively for almost the entire game, getting only a single runner to reach first base for the first six innings of play.
Meanwhile, the Vikings were not able to push any more runs across until the top of the fouth inning, when they were able to plate seven to increase their lead to 8-0.
In the top of the sixth, the Vikings added a solo run to go up by nine. However, Sacred Heart managed to cut into the lead, plating their only two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The first two batters for the Trojans were put out. Christian Duplechin reached first when he was hit by the pitch. Duplechin then moved to second on a stolen base and scored with a single off of the bat of Alec Gotro. Cody Shipp then blasted a double to right field, allowing Gotro to score the second run of the inning.
Opelousas Catholic finished the scoring in the top of the seventh by plating two more runs.
