OAKDALE -- The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans ran their undefeated record to 6-0, as they picked up three big wins in the Oakdale tournament this past weekend.
Sacred Heart was scheduled to take on the 9-1 Pine Prairie Lady Panthers yesterday afternoon. The Gazette will have full coverage of that inter-parish showdown in Sunday’s edition.
On Friday, the Lady Trojans scored three runs in the top of the first and held on for a 4-1 win over the Oakdale Lady Warriors.
Saturday, Sacred Heart was able to secure a 10-4 win over Elizabeth and a resounding 13-2 win over Oberlin.
Against Oakdale, the Lady Trojans struck fast. A lead off walk issued to Sydnie Soileau and an error created by the bat of Olivia Hernandez put runners at first and second for Sacred Heart.
Back-to-back triples from Tobie Landry and Karli Fontenot allowed the first three Lady Trojan hitters to score.
Sacred Heart would add their final run in the top of the fifth when Soileau would double and later score on a Fontenot single.
The Lady Warriors plated their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The first game on Saturday saw the Lady Trojans continue to remain hot on offense, picking up 12 hits in the win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Sacred Heart began the game by collecting four runs in the top of the first inning. Singles by Landry and Camille Soileau would be aided by three walks and an error, giving the Lady Trojans the early lead.
Elizabeth picked up a single run in the bottom of the third. However, Sacred Heart tacked on another crooked number in the top of the fifth, plating five more runs.
Elizabeth finished the game with solo runs in the final three at-bats, but the Lady Trojans kept the Lady Bulldogs at a distance with another run in the top of the sixth inning.
Game two on Saturday saw Sacred Heart trail for the first time in the tournament when Oberlin picked up two runs in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Trojans cut the lead down to one in the bottom half of the inning and proceeded to put on an offensive showcase for the remaining four innings in a run-rule win.
Sacred Heart blasted their way to five runs in the bottom of the third inning and added another run in the following frame.
However, the Lady Trojan bats really came alive in the bottom of the fourth when Maci Vidrine, Camille Fontenot and Olivia Hernandez all homered in back-to-back-to-back plate appearances.
