The 2017 version of The Gazette’s football contest came down to the end for both the individual and business versions. In the individual contest, Shane Darbonne retained his title from a year ago, making him this year’s top prognosticator.
Following not far behind was Kevin Guillory in second place, while Wesley Saunders placed third. Lauren Fontenot, Creighton Chatman and Jake Veillon all finished within one point of each other for the fourth through sixth spots respectfully.
This year was the first year that the businesses that advertised in the football contest were able to make predictions. The contest became the closest that it could be, as Bon Aimee and the Evangeline Bank both tied at the end of regulation. A tiebreaker for the championship weekend was created and Bon Aimee was able to pull out the win in the end. Tied for third place were Lemoine Insurance and Brown’s Furniture, while Ardoin’s Funeral Home was a close fifth place.
In the Pigskin Picks, Gazette Publisher David Ortego pulled out a last minute win over Gazette Managing Editor Elizabeth West.
