For someone who started out liking another sport, Pine Prairie’s Kameron Allen sure does shine on the basketball court.
This year’s Evangeline Parish Most Valuable Player, Allen was a “connoisseur” of softball at the ripe old age of six. However, the game of basketball really started to become a passion for Allen just two years later when she noticed that she wasn’t half bad with a ball that bounced.
“I started playing EPYB basketball when I was six, but I did not really get into it until I was about 8 or 9,” stated Allen. “For me softball was the sport I liked more. As I got older, I noticed I was getting pretty good at basketball, so I began playing more. My cousins pushed me more and more to the point where I would go outside and practice on my own. From there I found a love for the game.”
The sophomore point guard finished out her EPYB playing career and transferred her skills to the Vidrine Junior High court. After a successful seventh and eighth grade campaign, Allen took her talent to Pine Prairie High School beginning with her freshman year last season.
Coming into a brand new school and a brand new basketball environment brought a little bit of anxiety and trepidation for the young talent; especially since none of her classmates or teammates made the trek to the Land of the Panther.
Even as a sophomore, Allen has set high goals; get to the dance
