Panthers, Lady Panthers split contests with Eunice

EUNICE -- In very crucial contests that could affect the power rankings and chances at a playoff spot, the Pine Prairie Panthers and Lady Panthers hit the road Monday night to take on the Eunice Bobcats and Lady Bobcats.
In the boys’ game, Pine Prairie offset a big second quarter from Eunice with two huge quarters of their own to take a 87-71 win over the Bobcats.
With the victory, the Panthers are now 13-11 on the year and 5-6 in District 5-3A. As of Tuesday, Pine Prairie held the No. 33 spot in the power ranking, one place out of the playoffs with three games to go.
The Lady Panthers did not fare as well, falling to the Lady Bobcats 38-28. Pine Prairie dropped to 8-17 on the season and 4-9 in league play.
The Lady Panthers will need a ton of work to reach the playoffs, holding the No. 38 spot in the power ranking, six places out of the post-season. Pine Praire has only one game remaining on their schedule.
Both the Panthers and Lady Panthers will host Northwest tomorrow night.
The Panthers opened play by outscoring the Bobcats 19-11. But a 20-13 advantage by Eunice in the second quarter put them within one point at the half.
Pine Prairie pulled away in the third quarter, using a 28-14 advantage. The Panthers closed out the game by outpacing the Bobcats 29-26 in the final quarter.
Isaiah Payne led the Panthers with 25 points.
