If the District 5-1A selections for softball are any indication, the future is very bright for the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans.
The school placed seven players overall on the team released on Wednesday. However, both of its first-team selections were freshmen, infielder Ava Johnson and utility player Jodie Landry.
“We knew coming into the year that we were going to be really young and inexperienced,” Sacred Heart coach Todd Ardoin said. “Not only starting five true freshman, but due to COVID and injuries we had seven starters with little or no high school experience.
“It’s a great accomplishment for (Johnson and Landry) to be named to the all-district team and it gives us a great foundation for years to come.”
In addition Sacred Heart placed three players on the second-team, one of them a sophomore.
Sophomore pitcher Halle Lafleur, junior infielder Elizabeth McDaniel and senior utility Maci Vidrine were second-team selections for the Lady Trojans.
Sacred Heart had two honorable mention players, freshman Catherine Lawson and senior Jodi Vidrine.
In all, Ardoin feels confident on the future of his team with all but two of his all-district selections coming back next season.
“If we stay healthy and progress physically we feel that this team can do special things moving forward,” Ardoin said.
