MAMOU -- Kayden Serie picked up his first win of the year on the mound, pitching a seven inning shut out, as the Mamou Demons blanked the Marksville Tigers 7-0 in a non-district contest Tuesday.
With the win, Mamou evens their record at 4-4. The Demons were scheduled to play Cecilia on the road yesterday afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, Mamou picked up their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. The Demons added another run in the bottom of the third inning to go up 2-0.
A three-run fourth inning was followed by a two run sixth inning, giving Mamou all the runs needed to collect the win.
Serie went 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and four RBI to lead the Demon offense. Wesley Marcantel and Daylon Ardoin were each 2-for-3 on the day.
In other baseball action around the parish, the Sacred Heart Trojans blasted the Church Point Bears 17-0, the Pine Prairie Panthers squeezed past the Oberlin Tigers 3-1 and the Ville Platte Bulldogs fell 8-3 to the Opelousas Tigers.
In the Sacred Heart game, Gabe Fontenot and JT Harper led the way with the bat to give the Trojans an easy victory. Fontenot was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Harper belted a grand slam home run in a 1-for-2 effort at the plate.
Sacred Heart took a 1-0 lead after the first inning and then proceeded to pound the baseball, driving in six runs in the second and five runs in each of the next two at bats to gain the run-rule win.
Sacred Heart moves to 6-5-1 on the year with the win. The Trojans will participate in the Barbe tournament this weekend.
Meanwhile, Kyler Carson was stellar on the mound for Pine Prairie, going all seven innings and allowing only one run on one hit in the Panther’s victory over Oberlin.
Pine Prairie scored two in the first inning and one in the sixth inning to seal the victory. The Panthers are now 5-7 on the season and will play in the Glenmora Tournament this weekend.
After allowing Opelousas to score five runs in the top of the first, Ville Platte turned to eighth grader Bastian Veillon to settle things down on the mound. Veillon gave up only three runs over the remainder of the game, however, the Bulldogs could not overcome the deficit falling to the Tigers.
Ville Platte is now 0-4 on the year. The Bulldogs face Opelousas again today on the road.
In parish softball action, the Mamou Lady Demons raised their record to 4-2 with a 12-1 win over Iowa. The Lady Demons play Port Barre at home today.
Up Highway 13, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning to slip past Crowley for a 5-3 district win.
Pine Prairie improves to 7-7 on the season and 3-1 in district play. The Lady Panthers are scheduled to host Church Point in another league game today.
Despite allowing a four run third inning to Rayne, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans cruised to a 15-5 run-rule win over the Lady Wolves on Monday.
Sacred Heart has now won four in a row and is 5-3 on the season. The Lady Trojans were scheduled to battle St. Ed’s yesterday.
The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 after one inning of play and could not overcome the deficit in a 9-0 loss to the Kinder Lady Yellow Jackets.
With the loss, Ville Platte drops to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in district competition. The Lady Bulldogs play at Northwest tomorrow.
