Mamou searching for second victory; travels to Port Barre

How good can the Mamou Demons be this season?
That would depend on if they can find a way to start off games the way they finish them.
This past Friday night, Mamou (1-2) scored 20 points in the second half of play. However, the Demons were down 21-0 before they were able to put any points on the board in their 31-20 loss to Bunkie.
The week before that, Mamou trailed Basile 19-0 after one quarter of play. The result of that game, a 34-28 loss to the Bearcats.
So when the Demons travel to Port Barre for their non-district showdown with the Red Devils tomorrow night, getting off to a good start will be a must. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Port Barre enters the game with an overall record of 2-1. The Red Devils defeated Tara 14-8 in week one and followed that up with a 28-7 win over Beau Chene in week two. Port Barre fell to the Opelousas Catholic Vikings 42-0.
One thing that has been allowing the Demons to keep themselves in football games has been the ability to mix the run and pass on the offensive side of the ball. So far this season, Mamou has rushed the ball 95 times for 638 yards.
Through the air, the Demons are 18 of 44 for 321 yards and three four touchdowns.
The main beneficiary in the Mamou offense has been senior quarterback Daylon Ardoin. On the season, Ardoin has rushed for 344 yards on 38 carries and has accounted for 665 total yards on the ground and through the air.
Defensively, the Demons have allowed 1,145 total yards in their three games. On top of that, the Mamou defensive unit has given up 39 points in the first and second quarters of all games combined.
