Mamou, Pine Prairie split league contests on the road

As the 2017-18 basketball season continues to heat up, the Mamou and Pine Prairie boys and girls basketball teams took the road for some key district contests Friday night.
Mamou traveled to Port Barre and ended the night with a split, as the Lady Demons destroyed the Lady Devils 74-51 and the Demons fell 71-55.
Meanwhile, Pine Prairie found themselves in Church Point yielding opposite results, as the Panthers strolled home with a 71-55 win and the Lady Panthers finding the short side of a 39-20 contest.

Mamou (G) vs.
Port Barre
It was an offensive night for the Lady Demons, as they crushed the Lady Devils behind Kazhanna Richard’s 34 points.
Mamou jumped out to a 19-9 lead after one quarter of play and held off Port Barre 16-13 in the second period.
A slight 20-18 advantage in the third quarter, gave the Lady Devils some life, however Mamou sealed the fourth quarter, out scoring Port Barre 19-11.

Mamou (B) vs.
Port Barre
Port Barre flew out to a 24-12 lead in the opening quarter, however, Mamou turned things around in the second period, out pacing the Devils 18-9.
The third quarter felt like deja vu for the Demons, as Port Barre scorched Mamou 23-12. The Demons could only match the Devils in scoring, 13-13 in the final quarter.

Pine Prairie (G)
vs. Church Point
It was not the night, that Pine Prairie wanted on the offensive side of the court, as the Lady Panthers could only manage 13 total points in the first half and trailed 24-13 heading into the locker room.
Unbelievably, the second half was as unkind to Pine Prairie, as they put up a meager seven points in the final two quarters.

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Church Point
Isaiah Payne scored 12 of his 28 points in the first quarter to allow Pine Prairie to jump out to a 26-10 lead after the first period. The Panthers cooled off in the second quarter, as they were out scored 20-9.
The third quarter was very even, with Pine Prairie edging the Bears 14-13. However, the Panthers exploded again in the final period, ending the game with a 23-11 margin.
