Mamou picks up two big wins; Ville Platte falls in OT

The Mamou Demons and Lady Demons took to the road Friday night to take on the Church Point Bears and Lady Bears in District 5-3A action.
The Lady Demons utilized a strong second quarter and held off the Lady Bears down the stretch to take a 48-42 win.
In boy’s action, Mamou claimed yet another league win, as they scored in double digits each quarter for a 64-59 victory over Church Point.
Meanwhile, in an overtime barn burner, the Ville Platte Bulldogs took a break from district play, travelling to Lake Charles to play the Class 5A Lagrange Gators. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs could not get the offense needed in the extra period and fell to the Gators, 78-70.
Here is a run down of those games.

Mamou (G) vs.
Church Point
It was the Lady Bears that came out swinging, out pacing the Lady Demons 10-7 in the first quarter of play. However, Mamou got going on the offensive side of the floor and took control of the game, out scoring Church Point 15-9 in the second quarter.
The Lady Demons finished the game with a 26-23 advantage in the second half to secure the win. Kazhanna Richard paced the Lady Demons with 12 points.

Mamou (B) vs.
Church Point
Both clubs came out on fire offensively, as the two teams each knocked down 19 points in the first quarter. Mamou found a way to gain an advantage in the second quarter, out pacing Church Point 13-9.
The second half was pretty much a wash, with the Demons owning a 32-31 scoring advantage to close out the victory.
Tammarick Thomas led all Mamou scorers with 21 points.

Ville Platte (B)
vs. Lagrange
The Gators and the Bulldogs each put up gaudy number in the first two quarters, as Lagrange held a 15-13 lead after one period and a 38-34 lead as the teams disappeared into the locker room.
In the third quarter, Ville Platte surged ahead, out scoring the Gators 21-10. But, Lagrange would not yield, out producing the Bulldogs 19-12 in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.
The Gators finished the game off in the extra frame by out pacing Ville Platte 11-3.
Tyler Jones led the Bulldogs with 20 points.
