The regular season has come and gone and now it is time for boys’ basketball teams from around the state to take their first step on the quest to become state champions for the 2017-18 campaign, as the LHSAA announced the pairings for the playoffs on Monday afternoon.
Amongst those teams seeking to become the next team on the top of the mountain are four Evangeline Parish squads.
First up, in Class 3A, the No. 15 ranked Mamou Demons will defend their home court tomorrow night against the No. 18 ranked Madison Jaguars from Tallulah. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Mamou, the third place team from District 5-3A, comes into the game with an overall record of 14-8 and are winners of six of their last seven games.
Madison High sports an overall record of 14-13 and only won two games in District 2-3A, albeit one of the toughest districts in the state.
In Class 2A, the Ville Platte Bulldogs, by virtue of their 16-11 overall record, snagged the No. 16 seed in the post-season.
The District 6-2A runner-up Bulldogs will host the No. 17 ranked Vidalia Vikings tomorrow night in the Dog Pound. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
This is a rematch from last year’s playoffs, as Ville Platte took down the Vikings at home 79-60 in the first round of the Class 3A post-season.
Vidalia owns an overall record of 11-13 wound up 6-6 in District 2-2A play.
“We are happy to have a chance to get back into the playoffs again this season,” stated Ville Platte head coach Tommy Jones. “I knew we would be somewhere in the 14-16 range, but I was hoping that it was not No. 16. We are just going to have to go out and play no matter who we face.”
“They are definitely not going to be intimidated by having to play here,” Jones continued. “They play in a really tough district.”
The Sacred Heart Trojans will represent District 5-1A as the No. 20 seed in the Division IV playoffs tomorrow night. Game time had not been decided as of the press deadline.
The Trojans will have to travel to Plaquemine to face off against the No. 13 ranked St. John’s Eagles.
Sacred Heart finished the year with an overall record of 1-24, while the Eagles completed the regular season with a record of 14-15.
Finally, in Class 1A, the No. 29 Basile Bearcats hit the road to White Castle to tangle with the No. 4 Bulldogs tomorrow night. Game time had not been given as of press time.
White Castle, the District 6-1A runner-up, holds an overall record of 19-8. Basile finished the year at 6-18.
