Ville Platte -- On senior night, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans fought to the bitter end, but could not pull off the win, as the Opelousas Catholic Lady Vikings prevailed in overtime, 32-29.
With the loss, Sacred Heart fell to 5-18 on the season and 2-5 in District 5-1A. The Lady Trojans will travel to False River on Tuesday and close out the year on the road Friday against Catholic of Pointe Coupee.
Sacred Heart jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter. Dulcie Miller hit on two free throws and added a basket to help the Lady Trojans own a 7-4 lead after one quarter of play.
Opelousas Catholic pulled within two points, 14-12, in the second quarter despite a three-point basket from Shani Fontenot and two buckets from Blair Lafleur.
The Lady Vikings owned the final two periods in regulation. Opelousas Catholic out paced Sacred Heart 11-6 in the third quarter and 6-3 in the fourth quarter.
The overtime period did not go well offensively for the Lady Trojans, as they were out scored 6-3 by the Lady Vikings.
