Lady Trojans fall to Lady Hornets in District 5-1A match-up

FALSE RIVER -- A long road trip turned out to be a long day on the diamond for the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans, as they fell to the Catholic of Pointe Coupee Lady Hornets, 7-2, here Tuesday afternoon.
The loss drops the Lady Trojans to 9-5 on the year and 1-1 in league play. Sacred Heart will travel to Slaughter Charter tomorrow. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
It was not a good day for the Lady Trojans both offensively and on the hill, as Sacred Heart was out hit 10-1 on the day.
The Lady Trojans got on the board first, picking up a solo run in the top of the first inning. Emilyse Bergeron reached on a one out error by the Lady Hornet defense.
Olivia Hernandez pushed Bergeron to second base on a perfect sacrifice bunt. Another error by the Catholic defense with Karli Fontenot at the plate allowed Bergeron to score the first run of the game.
Sacred Heart starting pitcher Camille Fontenot was cruising along, sending the four out of five Lady Hornet batters back to the dug out. However, the Catholic offense found a groove in the bottom of the second, when the Lady Hornets tied the game up on a solo home run to center field.
Neither team could manage much offense in their next two at-bats. The Lady Trojans were only able to put two runners on the bases over the third and fourth innings combined, while Catholic did threaten in the bottom of the fourth by putting runners on second and third.
Sacred Heart added to their total in the top of the fifth, gaining another run to take a 2-1 lead. Tobie Landry reached on an error to lead things off for the Lady Trojans.
After two quick outs, Sydnie Soileau induced another error from the Lady Hornet defense. This time the error was egregious enough to send Landry all the way around to home plate and put Soileau on third base. Unfortunately for Sacred Heart the rally ended there with a strike out.
Catholic got the bats going in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lady Hornets picked up their remaining six runs in the inning, as they sent 11 batters to the plate in the at-bat.
During their offensive onslaught, Catholic hit four doubles and two singles to complete the come from behind win.
