Lady Trojans blow past Slaughter Charter in district victory

SLAUGHTER -- A lot of patience and a ton of hits allowed the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans to blast past the Slaughter Community Charter Lady Knights 20-10 here Monday afternoon in a District 5-1A tilt.
In the game, the Lady Trojans picked up 13 walks and 10 hits to roll past the Lady Knights.
With the win, Sacred Heart improves to 10-7 on the year and 2-1 in league play. The Lady Trojans will host False River on Tuesday in another district contest.
Sacred Heart wasted no time in picking up their runs, scoring seven in the top of the first inning. Sydnie Soileau began the at bat with a lead off walk and was moved to second when Emilyse Bergeron was hit by the pitch.
Olivia Hernandez smashed a double into left-center field, plating Soileau and moving Bergeron to third. Karli Fontenot walked to load the bases.
Bergeron and Hernandez both scored when Camille Soileau and Tobie Landry were both hit by the pitch in back-to-back plate appearances. Natalie LeBas followed with a single scoring Fontenot.
A ground out to shortstop earned Natalie Doucet an RBI when Camille Soileau touched home plate. Maci Vidrine and Sydnie Soileau both drew walks to push home Landry and LeBas. The inning ended on a fly out and an out at third base.
The Lady Trojans continued to show patience at the plate in the top of the second inning, drawing five more free bases, as they stunned the Lady Knights for 11 more runs.
In the at bat, Camille Soileau singled and Doucet doubled to aid in the Sacred Heart offensive output.
The final two runs of the game for the Lady Trojans came in the top of the third inning. Emilyse Bergeron singled to start off the scoring for Sacred Heart. After a fly out to the shortstop, Jodi Vidrine and Camille Soileau collected singles to load the bases.
A strike out gave the Lady Trojans their second out of the inning. However, LeBas would put the icing on the cake, as she singled in both Bergeron and Vidrine.
After the game, Sacred Heart head coach Megan Granger was pleased with the team’s offensive output.
“We did what we needed today,” said Granger. “Hopefully we can continue to score runs the rest of the season and on into the playoffs. ”
