EUNICE -- The Mamou Lady Demons came into Friday night’s contest needing some momentum heading into next week’s Class 3A playoffs.
Unfotunately, for the Lady Demons, they did not find it in Eunice, as the Lady Bobcats strolled past Mamou 52-33.
With the loss, the Lady Demons finished the year at 9-16 and 6-8 in league play. Mamou will find out its playoff destiny later on today when the brackets come out.
For the Lady Demons, their performance was rough around the edges to say the least. Eunice took the lead in the first quarter and never let it go for the entire game. Mamou was not much of a rival, however, as they missed numerous lay-ups and easy baskets. The result of their malfunctions resulted in a nine point deficit, 20-11, at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began with the Lady Bobcats putting up three points within the first minute of play. With seven minutes left to play in the first half, Mamou only managed to land five points, while Eunice found the basket enough times to add an additional nine points to their own score. As the buzzer sounded, the Lady Demons were trailing by 16 points, 32-16.
After returning from the locker room and still facing a huge deficit, Mamou continued to struggle offensively against Eunice. They were failing mainly by missing much needed point scoring opportunities. The second half was shaping up to be a performance equal to that of the first. All the while the Lady Bobcats continued to distance themselves from Mamou. At the end of the third period, the Lady Demons are down 46-24.
The final quarter was used by Eunice to seal the fate of their opposing team. The Lady Demons continued to fight to even out the score, but in the end their efforts were not enough.
Mamou was led by Kazhanna Richard who picked up nine total points.
