VILLE PLATTE -- For the Ville Platte Dixie Youth Minor All-Stars, it was just the way you wanted to open up the first game of the post-season, as they rolled past Vernon National 14-0 in their opening game of the East Sub-District Tournament here Thursday evening. In the contest, Ville Platte out hit Vernon 9-1 and showed the patience of Joab at the plate as they collected eight walks. After the game, Ville Platte head coach Jason Deshotel was pleased with the way his team performed.

“The boys showed up to play ball today,” stated Deshotel. “We have been working extra hard in the batting cages, especially since we haven’t been able to get on the field with all of the rain recently. We hit the ball well tonight. It seems to have paid off, seeing that we put some runs up on the board.” What also paid off for Ville Platte against Vernon was the pitching performances of Andrew Fay, Tristan Mayeux, Hayden Deshotel and Jackson Bruney. The four hurlers combined for a onehitter and combined for nine total strikeouts.
