District match-ups round out Tuesday night hoops

Tuesday night was chock full of basketball action, as the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans and the Ville Platte High basketball teams took to the road for some district action.
The Lady Trojans were able to notch their first district win of the season, as they took care of the Westminster Lady Crusaders 47-40. Sacred Heart is now 4-12 on the year and 1-0 in district play. The Lady Trojans will entertain North Central on Friday night.
Things were not so great for the Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs, as they fell to the Lady Tigers of Lake Arthur 84-27 to drop to 5-8 on the season and 0-1 in league play. The Lady Bulldogs will host Kinder Friday night.
For the Ville Platte Bulldogs, their first district encounter of this season did not go as planned, as they took one on the chin in a 68-58 loss to Lake Arthur. Ville Platte falls to 9-7 on the year and 0-1 in District 6-2A. The Bulldogs welcome Kinder Friday night.
Here is a rundown of those three contests.

Sacred Heart (G)
vs. Westminster
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 14-11 lead after one quarter of play behind six points from Dulce Miller and a three-point basket out of the hands of Shani Fontenot.
Fontenot went on a tear in the second quarter, scoring 12 of Sacred Heart’s 14 points, as the Lady Trojans took a 28-16 advantage heading into the locker room.
Westminster was able to scrape together enough offense to out-score Sacred Heart 15-9 in the third quarter. However, the Lady Trojans held their own down the stretch to pick up the win.
Fontenot hauled in 18 points on the night to lead Sacred Heart.

Ville Platte (G)
vs. Lake Arthur
There was not much going on offensively or defensively for Ville Platte throughout the contest, as Lake Arthur was able to score 20 points or more in three of the first four quarters.
The Lady Tigers opened up a 21-7 first quarter lead and extended that to 41-14 before the half came to a close.
A 26-4 advantage in the third quarter was finished off with a 16-9 differential in the final period to close out the game for Lake Arthur.
Trinity Leday logged nine points to lead the Lady Bulldogs in scoring.

Ville Platte (B)
vs. Lake Arthur
Both Ville Platte and Lake Arthur looked as if they were ready to take home a win in the first district contest for both clubs, as the Tigers held a 19-15 first quarter lead.
The Bulldogs did not produce the same amount of offense in the second quarter and was out-paced by Lake Arthur 17-12 in the period to find themselves trailing by nine when the first half buzzer sounded.
Another four point disadvantage in the third quarter allowed the Tigers to increase their margin to 13 over the Bulldogs. Ville Platte would out-score Lake Arthur 18-15 in the final period, but it was too little too late for the Bulldogs.
Tyran Jones hit on 18 points to lead Ville Platte while Jamal Byers added 16.points for the Bulldogs.
