MANY -- It is so hard to overcome talent. Just ask the Ville Platte High.
Friday night, the Bulldogs found out what it is to play a team with enough talent to be a perennial power year in and year out, as Ville Platte went down hard in a 62-0 loss to the Many Tigers.
Many has proven over the past few years that they are a contender for the state championship every season and Friday night did not give any indication that it would be any different this year.
The Tigers dominated the Bulldogs in every facet of the game, out gaining Ville Platte 392 to minus 12 in total offense, including holding the Bulldogs to zero yards passing.
It did not take Many long to put the first points of the game on the board. After holding Ville Platte to a three and out on their first possession, the Tigers got the ball at their 21-yard line to start their first drive of the game.
Seven plays into the drive, Many found pay dirt when Derrick Collier scooted in from 15 yards out to cap off the possession. The extra point was good and with 7:15 left to go in the first quarter the Tigers led 7-0.
Ville Platte took over the ball at their 30-yard line after the kickoff and seemed to show some life. Jamal Byers hit the Many defense for a 36 yard gain on second down. Unfortunately, the run was called back for a hold on the Bulldogs. Ville Platte could not do much with that possession and had to punt the ball back to the Tigers.
Many went back to work on offense, taking over at their 46-yard line. Keeping it mostly on the ground the Tigers pushed the ball down the field and found the end zone eight plays later when AJ Carter sprinted in from 20 yards out. The extra point was good giving Many the 14-0 lead with 2:32 left in the opening period.
The Tigers were not done scoring in the quarter. On their next possession, Many needed only two plays to found the end zone again. On first and 10 from the Ville Platte 24-yard line, quarterback Brock Booker found Fred Lafollette for a 24 yard pitch and catch. With the extra point, the Tigers had increased the lead to 21-0 with 57 seconds left in the quarter.
Ville Platte’s first mistake of the game cost them dearly. With the ball at the Bulldog eight yard line, Many picked off an errant pass and brought it back to the Ville Platte six-yard line.
A block in the back on the first play, pushed the ball back to the Bulldog 16-yard line. But, on the very next play, Collier slipped into the end zone from 16 yards out. The extra point was blocked, making the score 27-0 with 10:53 left to go in the first half.
Ville Platte could do nothing on offense once again and was forced to turn the ball over to the Tigers. Many took full advantage, scoring in two plays, the second play being a six yard Collier run. The extra point was no good. However, the Tigers had opened up a 33-0 lead with 8:33 to go in the second quarter.
Another interception by the Bulldogs on their next possession gave Many the ball at the Ville Platte 49-yard line. One play later, Booker found Josh Latour on a perfect pass play for the touchdown. Another missed extra point put the score at 39-0 with 7:16 to go in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs were forced to punt once again on their next possession and once again Many took advantage getting the ball at the Ville Platte 42-yard line. Three plays later, Carter blasted his way from 34 yards out to add to the Tiger lead. This time the extra point was good and the Tigers were up 46-0, where the score remained until half time.
In the second half Many would add to their lead and never let Ville Platte off of the mat.
Ville Platte ends the season with an overall record of 3-8.
