Basile wrestlers prepare for state

A long, hard fought season for the Basile High Bearcat wrestling team will cap off this weekend as they travel to Bossier City to do battle in the 2018 LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at Century Link Center.
Competition will begin on Friday with preliminary round matches. The finals are set for Saturday afternoon.
Basile, who competes in Division III (schools with enrollments of 665 and below) along with the likes of perennial powerhouses Brusly, Kaplan and North Vermilion, will look to sneak into the mix and steal the title away from those schools.
“If the stars line up the right way and we can get some of our guys that are not expected to score points for us to wrestle above themselves, I think we have a shot at the team title,” said head coach Bryan McCoy. “Let’s just put it this way, it is always possible, if things fall our way.”
“The team has really grown since the beginning of the season,” stated two-time state champion Gavin Christ. “It has really been awesome to see us progress throughout the year and everyone is looking good for state.”
“We know what it will take for us to take state,” said Issac Cortez. “It is just a matter of us going out and executing.”
