Three of the parish basketball teams took to the floor over the past few days, with two of those teams coming away with significant wins.
On Tuesday night, the Basile Lady Bearcats traveled to Eunice to take on the St. Ed’s Lady Blue Jays and were able to sneak past their rivals 52-48. The win improved the Lady Bearcats’ overall record to 5-7.
That same night, the Basile boys entered hostile Blue Jay territory with the hopes of completing the sweep with St. Ed’s. Unfortunately, things did not go the Bearcats’ way, as the Blue Jays held off Basile for a 66-42 win.
The loss drops the Bearcats to 0-5 on the young season.
Finally, this past Saturday, the Ville Platte Bulldogs played their final game in the Northside Tournament held in Lafayette. After falling to North Central and Peabody on Thursday and Friday, the Bulldogs found a way to grind out a 67-61 win over the Washington-Marion Indians to increase their overall record on the season to 8-2.
Here is a run-down of those three games played.

A 13-7 advantage in the second quarter gave the Lady Jays a 28-20 lead at the half. However, Basile picked up the pace in the third quarter and used the tandem of Frida Alvarez and Lainey Soileau, each recording eight points, to outscore St. Ed’s 23-10.
The Lady Bearcats finished the game with a 10-9 disadvantage in the fourth quarter, but were able to hang on for the win.
