The regular season journey is over and now the post-season road has been revealed.
On Monday afternoon the LHSAA released the brackets for the 2018 girls’ playoffs. Within those brackets were the names of four of the five parish teams, Mamou, Ville Platte, Sacred Heart and Basile.
All four of these teams will now set their sights on one goal, to take home the ultimate prize, a state championship title.
For the Mamou Lady Demons that first step begins with a familiar foe, the Iota Lady Bulldogs. Mamou and Iota both sprout from District 5-3A.
The two teams have tangled twice during district play this year, with the Lady Bulldogs taking both contests, 67-17 at home and 50-39 on the road.
The Lady Demons come into the game as the No. 26 seed with an overall record of 9-16. Meanwhile, Iota is the No. 7 seed and sports an overall record of 23-7. The Class 3A game is set for tonight at 6 p.m in Iota.
The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs will look to put the regular season behind them and come up with some of that old playoff magic they have been known for the last few years when they travel tonight to Coushatta to take on the Red River Lady Bulldogs in a Class 2A first round game. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Ville Platte, coming in as the No. 28 seed, finds themselves in unfamiliar territory, as they will be the underdog to the No. 5 seed Red River. Ville Platte owns an overall record of 7-14, while Red River comes into the game at 20-9 on the season.
Making another appearance in the Division IV playoffs is the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans. Sacred Heart, the No. 20 seed will be on the road tonight in Monroe to do battle with the Ouachita Christian Lady Eagles. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Ouachita Christian is the No. 13 seed and holds an overall record of 16-13, while the Lady Trojans come into the game with a record of 6-19.
Finally, in Class 1A, the Basile Lady Bearcats will also be on the road to face off against the Gueydan Lady Bears. The game is scheduled for tonight, but not time has been set.
