VILLE PLATTE – The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs got its District 4-3A slate jumped off on the right foot last Friday night, riding the shooting of senior guard Vandryua Wilson to a 50-42 win over Northwest.
The small-but-quick Wilson has been the catalyst for Ville Platte (10-11, 1-0) all season. Usually, as she goes her team follows.
And she was on last Friday, connecting for a game-high 18 points. Twelve of those points game on three-point baskets, including a buzzer-beater to end the first half.
The Lady Bulldogs grabbed an early 13-12 advantage after the opening quarter. Wilson and Janiah Leday each hit three-pointers to supply an early spark for Ville Platte.
It was in the second quarter where Wilson truly started to leave her mark.
The senior hit for eight of her 18 points in a 14-point frame for the Lady Bulldogs. Her buzzer-beater before the halftime whistle provided a momentum swing as it helped Ville Platte to a 27-22 leading into the second half.
The Lady Bulldogs were consistently better than Northwest throughout the contest, as it outscored the Lady Raiders in all four quarters.
The third-quarter advantage was a trim 11-9 one for Ville Platte. Wilson added five more points as she helped her team extend its lead to seven points.
However, down the stretch it was Ta’Shayli Poullard who carried Ville Platte to the finish line.
The senior connected for eight of her 12 points in the final period. Poullard ended up being the only other Lady Bulldog to finish in double-figures.
Destiny Lavigne ended with eight points for the Lady Bulldogs as well.
The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action next Tuesday, hosting the Iota Lady Bulldogs in district play.
