Another year has come and gone for football in Evangeline Parish.
Team success was harder to come by than it has been in past years, with no team advancing past the first round of the playoffs and no team ending the season with a .500 or better record.
However, that didn’t stop the parish from representing itself well within All-District teams that were recently released.
The five football-playing schools – Basile, Mamou, Pine Prairie, Sacred Heart and Ville Platte – play in three districts. Basile plays in District 5-1A, Sacred Heart 6-1A and Mamou, Pine Prairie and Ville Platte in 4-3A.
Overall, 22 players found themselves on either the first or second teams with Sacred Heart leading the parish with 12 selections on either a first- or second-team.
Both Basile and Sacred Heart had the most players on a first-team list, with three players representing each school.

District 4-3A
In a district where the biggest story was Northwest’s improbable run to the state semifinals, it comes as no surprise that the Raiders were the big winners when the all-district squad was released.
Northwest ended the season with the district’s offensive and defensive MVPs along with a three-way tie for the Coach of the Year.
For Evangeline Parish teams, none of the area’s teams ended the season with a first-team representative.
With Ville Platte, Mamou and Pine Prairie combining to win three games, success was hard to come by.
However, the parish did end the season with three second-team representatives. It was headlined by Mamou, who placed two players on the second-team with Pine Prairie adding one.
For Mamou, freshman Zamurri Brown found himself on the second-team as a wide receiver. Brown compiled 19 catches for 432 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 210 yards on 36 carries.
He’s joined by defensive back selection Cameron Thomas. The senior compiled 66 total tackles and four pass breakups to make his way onto the squad.
For Pine Prairie, senior Chris Nevils was a second-team selection as a defensive lineman. Nevils finished the year with 42 tackles, four sacks and 10 hurries to wreak havoc on opponents all season.

District 5-1A
The Basile Bearcats had a down year by their lofty standards, but still managed to represent itself well on the all-district listings.
Basile placed seven players on the first and second-teams with Tyler Newman and Wyatt Bertrand finding themselves listed on both sides of the ball.
Bertrand was especially important for Basile, landing on the first-team on both the offensive and defensive lines.
Newman landed on the first-team as a defensive back and second-team as a wide receiver while kicker Ross Cortez was the first-team kicker for the third consecutive season.
Pierre Berzas was a second-team choice on the offensive line and was joined on the second-team offense by running back Tucker LeBlanc.
Junior defensive lineman Scott Berzas and sophomore defensive back Pierson Comeaux were second-team defensive choices.

District 6-1A
The Trojans managed quite a few selections on the all-district team and had a pair of first-team selections overall.
Sacred Heart had eight different players listed on either the first or second-teams of District 6-1A.
Landon LeBlanc was the most decorated Trojan, being listed as a returner, wide receiver and defensive back.
He was joined on the first team by Ike Perry, who was named as a first-team flex player.
Second-teamers for Sacred Heart were quarterback Wade Pitre, Ashton Duos, Kohen Joubert, Sam Lafleur, Seth Guillory and William Jorden.
Lafleur, Dane Lejeune, Sam Veillion, Cole Tate and Alex Pitre were honorable mention calls for the Trojans.
