MAMOU - Mamou recovered three Oakdale fumbles on the night and ran a wrinkle in its offense by putting Devin Ardoin under center on multiple occasions, but the Green Demons allowed 622 yards of total offense against the Warriors and dropped their non-district contest, 64-30.
All but 55 yards came on the ground as Oakdale rushed for 567 yards on 38 carries and six touchdowns. On the other side of the field, Mamou gained 276 yards of total offense. The Green Demons ran 46 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns while passing for 94 yards.
Things got out of hand early as Oakdale scored 22 unanswered points in the first quarter. Mamou struck first with 9 minutes remaining in the second quarter when starting quarterback Dezmond Skinner completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Caden Lejeune. Ardoin then ran in the two-point conversion attempt to put the Green Demons behind 22-8.
Oakdale quickly got the points back on a 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion attempt.
Later, with 1:50 before the half, Oakdale scored again on a 55-yard touchdown completion from quarterback Cade Dauzat. Thirty seconds later, Mamou’s Ardoin ran for a touchdown from 7 yards out. With that, the Green Demons trailed 36-14 going into the halftime break.
Mamou outscored Oakdale 16-8 in the third quarter. The Warriors’ points came with 9 minutes on the clock on a 69-yard run and a two-point conversion. The Green Demons then scored on a 3-yard touchdown run from Ardoin and a 3-yard run from Sheamus Frank. Both two-point conversion tries were good.
The fourth quarter was all Oakdale, though, and started with a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Warriors sealed the game with touchdown runs of 50 yards and 62 yards.
Mamou fell to 3-3 on the season and will face Iota on the road next week as district play resumes. District play also resumes for Oakdale, who improved to 4-2 on the season, as the Warriors visit Pickering next week.
